Project: Girls Can Boys Can Educator Module
Client: Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group
Date: 2024
Location: Alice Springs, NT
Background
The Girls Can Boys Can project and toolkit was developed by the Tangentyere Women’s Family Safety Group and educators from the Larapinta Child and Family Centre and Braitling Primary School in Alice Springs.
The project is aimed at the primary prevention of domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) against women and their children. It provides Early Childhood and Primary School educators with age-appropriate resources, activities and lesson plans that challenge rigid gender stereotypes, showing healthy, fun, equal and respectful relationships between girls and boys, along with the strengths of Aboriginal children, families and communities.
Matrix’s Involvement
Matrix was approached to develop an online module for educators who were interested in learning more about the project and the toolkit with the intention of implementing in their classrooms.
A review of the current resources was undertaken and learning objectives defined. The content provided by the GCBC team covering topics such as ‘the underlying drivers of violence’, ‘how GCBC prevents violence’ and ‘applying GCBC in your school was then developed into an online course for TWFSG.
Using Articulate software, and incorporating videos, pdf resources and creating learning activities the module was developed to inform educators on the program and resources.
Outcomes
The course was completed in September 2024 and is now hosted by Matrix via our online learning portal and accessible to teachers and educators across the NT.
